Jörg (George) Zengel,

Kille, Clare Island, Co. Mayo and formerly of Lübeck and Helligenhafen, Germany - Peacefully at home, following a brief illness on June 3rd, 2023.

Sadly missed and remembered with love by his brother Volker, his dearly loved nephews Hauke and Thies, sister-in-law Willeke, extended Zengel Family, a large circle of friends and the community of Clare Island.

May His Kind Soul Have Peaceful Rest.

George's funeral will arrive at Roonagh Pier on Sunday (June 4th) at 6.30pm for the 6.45pm ferry to Clare Island, to arrive at the Church of the Sacred Heart Clare Island at 7.30pm. Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 12 noon followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery.

As pastors and ministers in the Lutheran Church in Ireland, we would like to express our condolences to Pastor Dr Jörg Zengel’s relatives, friends and to the church community on Clare Island.

As far as we know, no one from our community personally knew Jörg Zengel who was such a loved member of the Clare Island community. In an inspiring article in The Irish Times in February 2023 about lay people, especially women, now being involved in conducting services on the island, Pastor Zengel was mentioned with warmth and appreciation.

May he rest in God’s peace and eternal love.
