Stephen Callaghan,

Kinturk Upper, Ballyheane and formerly of Lucan Street, Castlebar and Cleveland, Ohio, USA - peacefully after a short illness at Mayo University Hospital,  Castlebar on 6th February 2023, in his 92nd year.

Predeceased by his parents Dan Callaghan and Mary Ellen née Killeen and his siblings Mollie Guthrie, Bridie Bartley, Lillian Callaghan, Josie Walkowiak, Christie Callaghan and Sarah Collins.

Much loved husband of Kathleen née Roche and loving father of Sheila Sugden, Michael Callaghan, Catherine Taylor (all UK) and Peter Callaghan (Castlebar).

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, sons and daughters, his cherished grandchildren Mary Ellen Sugden, Ciara Sugden, Conor Taylor, Kian Callaghan, Aidan Taylor, Elise Callaghan and Scarlett Taylor, his sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and many friends.

Stephen was born on Lucan Street, Castlebar on St. Stephen's Day, 26th December 1931. Like many of his generation he emigrated to Cleveland, Ohio as a young man. There he had a very successful career as Head Accountant with the City of Parma. Having returned to Ireland 20 years ago he and Kathleen set up home in Kinturk Upper, Ballyheane. He loved the outdoors and he enjoyed his daily walks in the countryside. Stephen was an avid reader and kept up with current affairs with the daily and weekly newspapers. In his younger days he loved horse riding and he was a member of the Parma golf club in Ohio.  His greatest joy were his seven beautiful grandchildren whom he adored. He was a family man and he loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
