Deepest sympathy to his wife Laura and the O'Brien and Armstrong families. May he rest in peace.
I couldn't make it to the funeral today but watched on the live stream, it was lovely to see so many of the family there to say farewell, including so many of our cousins.
My sincerest condolences to Anne and Dan, Denny, Edel and to Donie's wife Laura.
Rest in peace cousin, Tara
May Donies soul rest in peace
I spent my formative years growing up with Donie and have so many fond memories of our time together in Castlebar Tennis Club. He was a true gentleman on and off the court; charming, so funny, modest, friendly and would always go out of his way to help you...expect of course when you found yourself playing against him. If anybody could recover from a killer backhand down the line and turn it into a winning point, his winning point, it was Donie O' Brien.
He was a gifted tennis player, so skillful and precise but yet so humble and unassuming. He was an exceptional talent and it was always a total joy to play with him and against him.
Donie was so passionate about everything that he put his mind, a true inspiration not just to me but to everyone around him.
A true friend, dearly missed but never forgotten. RIP
