Doughmakone, Louisburgh, Co. Mayo (March 28th 2022) -in the peaceful surroundings of the Mayo Hospice.

Pre-deceased by his infant children Mary & John, parents John & Gretta and his uncle Mikie.

Treasured husband of Sheila (née Kelly), loving father to Majella, Anne Marie, Barbara, John Paul & Edel, adoring grandfather to John, Hugh, Deirdre, Niamh, Daithí, Conan, Robyn, Odhran & Jennifer, a great friend to his sons-in-law Pat, Enda Carl, & Barry and his daughter-in-law Louise. Deeply mourned and sadly missed by his loving wife, daughters, son, brothers, & sisters Jimmy, Michael, Mary, Margaret & Ann, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law,  aunt Sadie Prendergast, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbours and a large circle of friends.

May His Soul Rest In Peace.

John will lie in repose at Sweeney's Funeral Home Louisburgh on Thursday (March 31st) from 5.00pm, concluding with prayers at 7.00pm.

Funeral departing his home on Friday at 12 noon arriving to St. Patrick's Church, Louisburgh for 12.30pm Mass of Christian Burial, followed by interment in Killeen Cemetery.

House strictly private please.

Family flowers only donations in lieu if desired to Order of Malta Louisburgh or Mayo/ Roscommon Hospice @ https://www.hospice.ie/donations/donate-online/ or C/O Sweeney Funeral Directors Louisburgh.

He was a true gentleman and always was there to give advise or help to anyone who reached out to him. He was a good friend to many and will be sorely missed. Over the years he worked tirelessly as a Board member of Mayo Cancer Support and was the main driving force behind the annual Greenway cycle.
He was a great family man and spoke so warmly about his grandchildren who he adored. He loved to talk about farming and of course the GAA! He had a great sense of humor and could chat for hours. He gave great encouragement to people who were feeling under pressure due to concerns over illness. He was a fighter and had a positive attitude to life and living.
John has gone to his final resting place. His work here is done. RIP Big Man.
