It is hard to express the countless words needed, to say how VERY MUCH Brian meant to our lives - over many, many years. We are simply better people for having known and "experienced" this one-of-a-kind human being! We were blessed to "live" the old-fashioned Ireland with the Brian and his beautiful family... penny-candy window in the Polke General Store... stepping through the magic passage way to the "other worldly" pub... and, best of all, through the welcoming front door, that leads to Sheila's kitchen, for hours of conversation around the grand family table, that seemed capable of to seating 100...sipping yummy Sherry beside the ALWAYS warm and cozy stove.... This gracious Polke home, with Brian at the helm, creating endless memories, will be forever cherished. From across the pond, we send our love, thoughts and prayers for all of the family, especially Sheila, at this very difficult time.
God Bless You All ~ Bren & Ran

Our Deepest sympathy to his wife sheila and family Brian always had a great welcome when we visited the shop in ballycastle may his gentle soul rest in peace
Varvara Shavrova
Devastated to learn of the passing of our dearest Brian Polke, a friend, a mentor, a loving father, grandfather and husband, and moreover, the heart and soul of Ballycastle and Ballinglen community of artists, who, once crossed the threshold of Polke’s, would return again and again, often travelling from the far ends of this Earth-America, Canada, Russia, China- all drawn back to Polke’s in Ballycastle by the hospitality, kindness and wisdom of its proprietor, Brian Polke. Brian had an ability to connect to people from all over the world, and I maintain that he also had a very special rapport with the many artists and creative people who came to Ballycastle via Ballinglen Arts Foundation. We will miss him terribly and send sincere condolences to the members of the extended family, and especially to Sheila, in these difficult snd devastating times. Eternal Memory!

Ballycastle has lost a true gentleman. So many fond memories of Brian/Polkes throughout my childhood and adulthood. As a child going into the pub with the family to watch Ireland playing, drinking minerals, eating crisps, buying penny sweets in the shop, playing out the back. Getting a bar of chocolate from Brian while waiting in Polkes to be picked up after basketball, Brian letting me use the phone to call home. Putting some groceries on the book for mam (everyone had a book in Polkes!!). Brian there and smiling through it all. Then as an adult, going into Polkes for a quiet (sometimes not so quiet) drink was always a special one. Brian was always so welcoming. It was a sad day in Ballycastle when Polkes closed and now today Ballycasle has lost a true legend, may you rest easy Brian ♥️

Dear family of Brian,
Love from across the Atlantic, Brian has been an anchor to our many visits to Mayo and The Ballinglen arts foundation,
He was many time the first person we met over the weekend, or the last to say goodbye before travel.
Especially all the artists kids have a sweet spot for Brian for all the treats he used to give them over the years. What a lovely kind person, love from Utzy Noam and Yoni
